Next series of classes online or in-person will focus on the ballet Raymonda, music by Glazunov. I have always loved what we call in the ballet world, character dance. I had a gorgeous, musical, teacher, Miss Joyce Shietze. Raymonda has some fabulous occasions to dance these rhythmic heart felt dances. As a student character class started with usually your mum getting the pattern, material, and brocade, to sew your character skirt which had many many wonderfully long pleats around your waist. Length, size of waist band, colour, and design of brocade all were exciting decisions to make! Then, perhaps more exciting was to order (for us in Ottawa it meant from a ballet store in Montreal) the black shoe which had what was known as a character heel. Rather square and perhaps 1 1/4 inch high with a strap across the arch and a delicate button to fasten. I loved my new attire for this special class, the music, and this new way of combining parallel and ballet turn-out movements together. Series online from March 20 to May 15 includes class, discussion and comments of select videos, and a recording of class. Fee $202.50 + hst In -person classes on Fridays are on-going.
